To check freshness of eggs: Put the egg in water. If it becomes horizontal, it's fresh. If it becomes slanting, its 3-4 days old. If it becomes vertical, its 10 days old. If it floats, it's stale.

To remove ink from clothes: Put toothpaste on the ink spots generously and let it dry completely, then wash.

To skin sweet potatoes quickly: Soak in cold water immediately after boiling.

To get rid of mice or rats: Sprinkle black pepper in places where you find mice or rats. They will run away.

RM300,000 target from donation of 10 sen coins

PETALING JAYA: Little drops of water make a mighty ocean. And little 10 sen coins can build up into a meaningful amount able to feed many mouths in Gaza.

It is precisely with this in mind that the Universal Peace Federation of Malaysia and the Malaysian Red Crescent Society have jointly organised the “Power of 10 sen” Peace Convocation.

With its theme “Now Everyone Can Give”, they aim to raise RM300,000 by having students of all ages collect 10 sen coins from the people.

Palestinian Raed Elotol, 32, who was at the launch here yesterday, said he was very grateful for the efforts by Malaysians to help the children of his nation.

Humanitarian Appeal Fund patron Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, in her speech, said the simple act of giving 10 sen could be very powerful.

“It is timely to launch this programme as children are always the greatest victims of war,” she said during the launch here yesterday.

Special Power of 10 sen collection boxes will be set up in schools and institutions of higher learning throughout Malaysia until May 12.

The funds will be channelled through the Malaysian Red Crescent Society (MRCS) for humanitarian programmes in Gaza.
